I have born in S. João da Madeira, Portugal in the year of 1967, and I have a Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees in Applied Physics (Optics and Electronics) by the Faculty of Sciences of University of Oporto, Portugal, and by the School of Physical Sciences of University of Kent at Canterbury, Kent, UK.
I am Associate Professor at the University Fernando Pessoa, Porto, Portugal, since 1996, being temporally on leave from the University duties during 2001 and 2003, to co-found with three colleagues a start-up company on advanced fibre optic technologies, Multiwave Networks Inc. at USA.
My actual scientific interests are concentrated in the following topics:
