Abstract |
This work describes the study of information systems in organisations aiming at the characterisation of a service set based on multimedia facilities. These multimedia facilities are now affordable given the increase of computer systems capacity and became a key factor to boost creativity and productivity. Multimedia is changing the relationship between users and the information system. The present work assumes the information management and the information flow as critical success factors in the enterprise; if these factors are handled conveniently it is possible to change dramatically the productivity of human resources. In order to obtain this kind of advantages the information system must be improved with technology that enables the information flow. The contribution of multimedia to telecommunication applications is analysed to determine its impact in the information system. The work introduces three types of applications that meet the requirements identified by the study and two applications are described: telework and telelearning. The support technologies that serve as the base for the specification and development of the applications are also presented; they are multimedia, databases and data communications. |
