Indonesia Offshore

NW Java Offshore

Taking into account the geological model for a B-type subduction zone, illustrated on Page 44, and the location of the seismic line of this Canvas autotrace, the proposed tentative geological interpretation, in which a forearc basin lies above an accretionary wedge seems difficult to refute. Obviously, the accretionary wedge and the forearc basin are located on the overriding lithospheric plate of the Sumatra/Java subduction zone defined by the plunging the Indo-Australian plate under the Sunda plate (formerly considered a part of the Eurasian , but satellite measurements have confirmed its independent eastward movement (± 10 mm/yr) relative to Eurasia (A. Socquet et al., 2006).
