Definitions

Deep Offshore Type 1

Offshore unrelated to the formation of the Meso-Cenozoic megasuture, i.e., developed during the formation of the oceanic crust. Atlantic Offshores (Angola, Nigeria, Morocco, Baltimore Canyon, Shetland, Norway, Gulf of Mexico, etc.), certain Pacific offshores (Australia offshores) and Indian offshore are examples of deep offshores type 1.

 

Deep Offshore Type 2

Offshore associated with the formation of the Meso-Cenozoic megasuture, i.e., formed in the areas where compressional (shortening) tectonic regimes are predominant. Ex: Southern Java offshore, Philippines, Borneo, North Venezuela, California, South Caspian Sea, Adriatic Sea, etc.
