Potential Source-Rocks
Transgressive Phase of the Continental Encroachment Cycle
On this tentative interpretation of a Canvas autotrace of a Suriname offshore seismic line, it is obvious the potential source-rocks are those associated with the Cretaceous transgression (interval colored in green). The rift-type basins are too small to develop potential source rocks. This was already the case on the offshore lines of the Guyana. In the eastern Venezuela offshore and south of Trinidad, the generating petroleum subsystem seems, also, to be the same. Notice the presence at the base of the regressive phase of turbidite deposits that can create potential morphological traps by juxtaposition.
