Potential Source-Rocks
Backarc Basins with Oceanization
In this offshore, the conventional generating petroleum sub-system (source-rocks) is, mainly, associated with the coals of the deltaic intervals of the sag phase of backarc basin (mainly of the thermal or sag phase), which is covered by a non Atlantic-type divergent margin developed after the breakup of the lithosphere with the creation of a marginal sea bounded by non Atlantic-type divergent margins. Taking into account, the total thickens of the sedimentary column, an alternative dispersive generating petroleum sub-system is possible in deep water, where the organic matter is transported down-dip by gravity currents. However, to develop economically hydrocarbon accumulations (mainly gas) such alternative generating sub-system must have a large thickness and the hydrocarbon migration must be convergent.
