East Canada Offshore
Southern Baffin Bay
On this tentative geological interpretation of a seismic line shot on the western side of the Southern Baffin Bay, the Cenozoic Atlantic-type divergent margin is, clearly, recognized above the the breakup unconformity, which bounds the rift-type basins developed, and infilled, during the lengthening of the Pangea continental crust (small Laurentia supercontinent). The emplacement of volcanics at the base of the Atlantic-type divergent margin, probably, in association with the breakdown of the lithosphere and the oceanization (seafloor spreading) of the Baffin Bay seems coeval of the SDRs (lava-flows) recognized on other Canvas autotraces (see Page 6D).
