Projects areas
- Information Management
issues
-
- I am particulary interested in the impact that
Information Society and networked structures have both to individuals and
organisations. The use of information and how can we take advantage of
computers and networks to deal with it, considering its resource, value and
power. Applications and multimedia issues involved are also part of my
research activity.
-
- egovernment
and governance
issues
As an extension of the
concerns with information management, the improving of both central and
local government facilities to improve citizens life is another of my
research interests. As a result of been involved in a big digital cities
projects, a number of research projects are now on place as also a bunch of
new ideas to proceed. Among them, governance strategies using advanced
computer and newtorks applications take part of my current research.
Improving contents for my Teaching Activity at UFP
and UFPUV
I'm working in better and richer situations to enhance the
learning process. The main focus is the creation of an environment where it is possible to
(re)use the material produced in the past years and produce new material based on the
discussion between students, myself and others. The "others" are professionals
from industry who may want to collaborate in demonstrating the use of technologies and new
facilities in the lectures context.
Use of Information Technology in education
and elearning setting
At UFP there is the possibility to every student buy a laptop
computer to attend and to use in classrooms. This led to a rich technology environment
where a great number of students and teachers have their own laptops. The
University itself is transforming its buildings to support this environment. I am one of
the guys who try to explore all this new potential, trying to contribute with more ideas
to the "laptop all initiative" as an information (and cultural) transformer at
UFP.
More information about projects where I am
involved.
A collection of papers
are available as a result of research and project activity following these areas.
I authored a number of
Books
on those subjects as a result of ongoing activity
Interests
- Information Systems / Information Management
-
- Uses and applications; technologies; methods for new and
better systems; social and economic impact; information management are just some concerns
that must be addressed in order to help build better information systems by preparing
better students to deal with old and new situations. (see that as a manifesto from an
academic guy if you want!)
-
- New forms for education tech support / elearning
-
- With or without technology, it seems quite clear that actual education
systems are "out of order". Why?, if we think of what a new professional needs
to know and its skills portfolio we conclude "pronto" that something can be done
to improve the actual situation. Technologies can be used to help achieving better
results.
-
- Information Society issues / Digital Cities /
egovernment / digital governance
-
- Information Society... it is a mind game where we can discuss
serious things in an informal way. So I like this subject to generate more questions than
those that can be answered by present time; good for collective thinking!
-
- Also one of my interests, is to be a F.C.Porto
supporter, my football passion!
